Black Authors | Best Selling African American Literature and Books
When I think of famous black authors, one of the first names that come to my mind is Eric Jerome Dickey. Which suprised me, when I saw my urban book listed amongst some of the best selling black authors of all time.
Black Writers
Who am I? My name is Jeremy Drummond, and I am the author of Dutchess. I write primarily African American Literature, or Black Fiction as most people call it.
I was completely shocked to be listed right alongside top black women authors such as Maya Angelou, Zane, and Sistah Souljah.
The black author list I am referring to is the one kept by Amazon. While this may not mean much to people who are signed to major contracts, it is a big deal to me as I make a substantial amount of money from it.
As an Indie author, I get to set my own hours, and I get paid monthly unlike some of the big name black authors who have to wait months for a royalty check to arrive.
My only drawback is major worldwide distribution. I believe if I had this, I would be just as big as some of my all time favorite black writers.
However, the books written by me, rather they make $1 million or $0 is fine with me. I do it because I love to write, and hear feedback from my readers.
While I enjoy positive reviews, I learn the most from the negative ones, and they help me to grow as a writer. I take nothing personal that is said about my writing. Some people will love you, and others will absolutely hate you. That is life. My job as a writer is to reach the most people that I can.
